Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve life and reliability of a refractory duct, to be used in a position where molten metal passes, by manufacturing it with steel fiber-blended refractory.
CONSTITUTION: Castable refractory 7, constituting a duct 3, is blended with steel fiber 8 for improvement of tensile strength. A steel fiber 8, consisting of stainless steel fiber with length of 30 millimeters and effective diameter of 0.4 millimeters, etc., is added to alumina system castable refractory 7 to the extent of approximately 2W3 wt%, and this is poured into the castable refractory by using a core so that the steel fiber-blended castable refractory comes up to outside surface of the duct 3. In this mecanism, it is possible to improve tensile strength of outside surface of the castable refractory 7 and to prevent the outside surface from occurrence of crack.
