Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve sensitivity and to prevent malfunction by taking out two elements of ratio differential and higher harmonic ratio separately for protecting a transformer when tripping is permitted by both decisions on the basis of respective elements.
CONSTITUTION: The abnormal current in a transformer T is detected by current transformers CT1 and CT2 to be added to a scalar sum arithmetic circuit 1 and a vector sum arithmetic circuit 2, and the resultant outputs are respectively supplied to a ratio differential element 3 and a higher harmonic ratio element 4 and a higher harmonic ratio element 4. Agreed conditions between both signals are taken by an AND circuit 5 to be used for a trip instruction signal. Level decision circuits L1 and L2 are added to a fundamental harmonic detecting circuit F1 and the second higher harmonic detecting circuit F2 not to give any blind area to the higher harmonic ratio element 4. Since this construction serves to eliminate the interference between the ratio differential characteristic and the restraining characteristic at the switch-on time of the transformer, both characteristics can be highly promoted in their sensitivity and the system is prevented from malfunctions.
