Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the lowering of insulation resistance due to the absorption of moisture by insulators inside a tube, through cracks of glass, by producing cracks in low-melting-point glass which seals the open end of a sheath heater, and subsequently by injecting a secondary sealing agent.
CONSTITUTION: The opening end of metal pipe 12 of a sheath heater in which heater terminal 11 and insulator 13 are provided, is primarily sealed with low- melting point glass 14. Next, fine cracks 15 are produced in the low-melting-point glass by heating it by an electric furnace to about 280 to 350°C. After this, while the surface temperature of metal pipe 12 is maintained approximately at 50°C or above, a secondary sealing is given by using silicone rubber 16. Next, during the time in which silicone rubber solidifies, a lead metal is spot-welded to terminal 11, and then this lead metal is cooled in the atmosphere and silicone rubber 16 is let natural solidification.
