Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve the improvement in flexibility by constituting at least one of core and clad by rubber-form elastic material. CONSTITUTION:In a clad rod 1 for optical transmission composed of a core 2 of a high refractive index and a clad 3 of a low refractive index on the outside circumference thereof, both of the core 2 and clad 3 or one thereof is constituted by rubberlike elastic material such as silicone rubber, hydrated glass elastic material, water glass elastic material or the like. This enables sufficient flexibility to be obtained even if the sectional area of the clad rod 1 is increased. When the core 2 and clad 3 are made constituted by silicone rubber, the one which is capable of transmitting a wide range of light because of the superior adhesiveness, light transmission characteristic and ultraviolet ray transmission characteristics of silicone rubber and does not cause peeling between the core 2 and clad 3 despite repeated bent use may be obtained.
