Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve quality, brightness and resolution by using a rare earth activation fluorescent material as the red fluorescent material of the fluorescent screen of a cathode-ray tube, and a fluorescent material, obtained by mixing a sulfide fluorescent material with a rare earth activation fluorescent material in the weight ratio of 1:2, as the green or blue fluorescent material.
CONSTITUTION: The fluorescent screen of a cathode-ray tube on which fluorescent materials emitting red, green and blue color beams through the impact of electron beams are applied in fixed patterns uses as the red fluorescent material a rare earth activation fluorescent material from which high brightness can be obtained. As green or blue fluorescent materials, mixture fluorescent materials are used which can be obtained by mixing a sulfide fluorescent material with a rare earth activation fluorescent material which hardly causes brightness saturation in a high-current range. The mixing amount of the rare earth activation fluorescent material in this mixture fluorscent material should be more than 50 weight%; for example, the ratio of the sulfide fluorescent material to the rare earth activation fluorescent material is set to 1:2 (weight ratio). As a result, high brightness and high resolution can be obtained without losing the evenness of a white screen in the high-current range.
