Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the diffusion electrochemical gas detector higher in response speed and higher in performance by providing a filler chamber which has a vent port and blocks the passage of reducing gas to the outside of a counter electrode and a reference electrode.
CONSTITUTION: The working electrode 4, counter electrode 5 and reference electrode 6 which comprise forming an electrode surface on one side of a water repellent porous film having electrical insulation characteristic seal both ends of an electrolytic cell 1 into which electrolytic solution 10 is sealed through an inlet 9. A filler chamber 14 having a vent port 12 is provided on the outside of the counter electrode 5 and electrode 6 and adsorbents 11 such as molecular sieve 5A are filled therein through a protecting screen 13. The adsorbents 1 adsorb the gases of relatively large molecular weights such as CO, SO2 and other, obviating the contact of the counter electrode 5 and electrode 6 with CO, SO2 and other. In case reducing CO exists in the gas 8 to be detected in contact with the electrode 4, CO is oxidized by the electrode 4 and becomes CO2, which is then exhausted by passing through the porous film. Since the oxidation-reduction potential of CO is being applied to the electrode 4, the current proportional to the CO concentration flows in an ammeter.
