Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce heat produced in the control transistor and to obtain a miniaturized and reliable unit by connecting the first control transistor with a series circuit, which consists of the second control transistor, in parallel to control the first transistor such that it is in the state of cut-off.
CONSTITUTION: The control circuit 1 compares the output voltage with the reference voltage, and changes the base current of control transistor 2 according to the difference between both voltages to make the output voltage constant. A series circuit, which consists of the resistance 5 and control transistor 6, is connected to the said control circuit in parallel, the control circuit 1 controls the control transistors 2, 6 in such a way that the output voltage is made constant. While the input voltage is less than or approximately equal to the output voltage even though the voltage of input terminal 3 is raised up, heat is not produced in the transistors 2, 6. When the voltage is further raised, the transistor 2 enters the active range and is heated, but the transistor 6 holds a complete conductive state. By this the heat produced in the control transistor can be extremely reduced to obtain a miniaturized and reliable unit.
