Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to cool coke fully with a shaft furnace sealed by a simple and cheap device, by cooling a briquette coke carbonized in the furnace with a cooling gas, followed by introducing it into a water sealing device.
CONSTITUTION: A briquette coke carbonized at 900W1,000°C by two-stage process in the low-temperature and the high-temperature zones A and B respectively of a shaft furnace (upright carbonization furnace) is cooled in the cooling zone C by a cooling gas fed from the intake 12, a heated gas is recovered through the exhaust port 13 of the gas recovering sensible heat. The sealing effect of the water bath 16 can seal the gases in the furnace with ease. Since the water content of the product coke depends on both the temperature of the cooling water and the immersion time in the water, operating conditions are preset according to a experiment previously carried out.
