Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the production cost of 2,7-octadien-1-ol, useful as a synthetic intermediate of plasticizers, in the hydrative dimerization of 1,3-butadiene, by providing a process of the isomerization of by-products and a process of the efficient recovery and recycling of an expensive catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: 1,3-Butadiene is reacted with water in an organic solvent in the presence of CO2 and a catalyst comprising Pd and a phosphine or a phosphite, to obtain octadienol. The resulting reaction solution is subjected successively to the separation process of low-boiling substances, the flash distillation process and the rectification process, to obtain pure 2,7-octadien-1-ol. A part of 1,7-octadien-3-ol separated in the rectification process is isomerized into the desired substance in the presence of a catalyst and CO2, and recycled to the separation process of low-boiling substances. High-boiling substances separated in the flash distillation process is treated with a basic substance and/or an aliphatic hydrocarbon, whereby by-products are separated and the catalyst is recovered.
