Abstract
PURPOSE: A specifically composed polymer solution containing poly-m-phenylene isophthalamide is formed through wet or semi-dry and semi-wet method by extruding the solution into a coagulation bath of halogenated hydrocarbon to form products free of clarity loss with excellent physical properties.
CONSTITUTION: A polymer solution consisting of 10W45% of a polymer mainly composed of poly-m-phenylene isophthalamide, 5W20% of a halide of an alkali or earth metal, and residual parts of an organic polar solvent as N,N-dimethylacetamide is extruded into a coagulation bath of halogenated hydrocarbon as methylene chloride, or dichloroethane into fibers or films. When the temperature ofd the extruded product is higher than the boiling point of the coagulant, the semi- dry and semi-set method is applied, whereby the extruded solution is cooled by the air, then introduced into the coagulation bath. As the coagulation bath is preferably used a double-layered bath including inmiscible water or Ca Cl aqueous solution for extracting the metal halide.
