Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a quenching medium which forms a uniform, stable, and reliable quanching layer, by dissolving specific quantities of lauric acid, or its derivatives,salts together with rust preventives and mold preventives in water to form an aq. soln. CONSTITUTION:The aq. quanching medium contains aq. quenching agents as principal components, e.g., 0.1-0.5 % lauric acid, or a cpd. of a long chain structure similar to that of lauric acid, having lauryl group, CH3(CH2)n group, in addn., with many polar groups, e.g., COOH, OH, and with many C atoms, or their derivatives, salts. To the soln. are added a suitable quantities of NaNO3, Na2 CO3 as a rust preventive and a mold preventive. The aq. quenching medium improves cooling rate in the range from 800 deg.C to 400 deg.C and forms uniform, stable quenching layer reliably. It hardly changes properties because it contains rust preventive and mold preventive, hence its conservation is easy.
