Abstract

PURPOSE: To automatically adjust a clearance between a pad and a disc of a brake by constituting the brake such that, when an amount of movement upon rotation of a ball-lump mechanism exceeds a predetermined level, the excessive amount of movement is converted into a motion for feeding a ratchet gear.
CONSTITUTION: A caliper memver 5 is fitted in another caliper member 6 which has at an end thereof a threaded section 17 on which a ratchet gear 18 is screwed. On the other hand, a rotational plate 11 has a pawl 16 secured thereto which is engaged with a ratchet tooth of the ratchet gear 18. If wear proceeds on friction pads 3, 3', a rotational angle of the rotational plate 11 becomes larger than a normal predetermined angle so that the ratchet gear 18 is fed one ratchet tooth space thereof. Accordingly, the caliper member 5 is drawn in the direction of an arrow A to reduce the clearance between the friction pads 3 and 3' and a disc 3".
