Abstract

PURPOSE: To ensure protection against abnormal voltage by using a non-linear resistance and breaking the resistance on the opening of the secondary side of a current transformer to provide a low impedance.
CONSTITUTION: A non-linear resistance comprises fitting terminals 22 and 23 connected between secondary terminals of a current transformer; non-linear resistance elements 15 and 16 placed between the fitting terminals; a conductive spring 17 connecting the elements with one of the fitting terminals; a container 18 containing the elements and the spring; and an insulating material 26 serving as a spacer between the container and the elements. The resistance is connected between the secondary terminals of the current transformer, and is broken on the opening of the secondary side of the current transformer so as to provide a low impedance and short-circuit between the secondary terminals. When a short-circuit current is flowing due to a system accident and an incoming surge is added to develop an abnormal voltage, the secondary circuit of the current transformer is protected against the abnormal voltage. The dynamic current developed on absorption of the surge is cut off rapidly.
