Abstract
PURPOSE: To preform decarburization and refining of high-Cr molten steel to a 0.02% super low-carbon region without the splashing of molten steel and also the oxidation of Cr by making the diameter of oxygen lance 1/2 at a time when the C content of molten steel eached 0.04 % in the decarburization and refining of high-Cr molten steel by oxygen cupelling under vacuum.
CONSTITUTION: Molten high-Cr and high-carbon steel is put in a vacuum decarburization chamber by a ladle, etc., while blowing Ar gas from the porous plug at the bottom of ladle with stirring in order to perform the decarburizating refining of the molten steel by oxygen cupelling by lance. The lance consists of a triple tube, of which the inside double tube is used for oxygen cupelling and the outermost tube is used for the blowing of Ar gas, etc., thus lessening the consumption of lance. When the C content of the molten steel reaches approx. 0.10 % as oxidative decarburization reaction exceeds, the sending speed of oxygen is made slower, and when C reaches 0.04 %, oxygen is sent only from the central tube of the triple tube for refining, whereupon sectional area for oxygen sending is reduced to 1/2 and the amount of oxygen sent is made smaller while keeping the rate of sending oxygen at a certain rate. Thus, decarburizating refining of molten steel can be attained to the extent of a super low carbon region of C<0.02% without oxidizing Cr and also the splash loss of molten steel.
