Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve image quality and storage stability of the color image of a color diffusion transfer photographic element, by adding both acetyl cellulose and a specified polymer to the timing layer of a neutralization system. CONSTITUTION:An organic solvent solution of a mixture of acetyl cellulose and a polymer of formula I [A is a comonomer component of formula II (R1 is H, halogen, or methyl; R2 is H, halogen, alkyl, aryl, formula III, IV, or V; R3 is alkyl or aralkyl; R4 and R5 are alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl; and a is 0 or 1); B is another ethylenical comonomer component, but it does not include a component of formula IV substantially; x is 20-70 mole %; y is 30-50 mole %; and z is 0-30 mole %], preferably in an amount of 2-15 wt. % based on acetyl cellulose is directly or indirectly coated on a neutralization layer for lowering pH of a composition teated with alkali to form a timing layer.
