Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title fibers capable of giving cement and calcium silicate products used as a reinforcing material, by sizing glass fibers melt spun from a ZrO2-containing alkali-resistant glass having an alkali solubility ≤4% with a specific agent.
CONSTITUTION: Glass fibers are sized with a sizing agent comprising 20W70 wt.% of a polyacrylate resin, 10W70 wt.% of polyvinyl acetate resin, 0.5W20 wt.% of a smoothing softener, 1W20 wt.% of a coupling agent, and 1W20 wt.% of a water- soluble resin, wherein the solid content of the polyacrylate and polyvinyl acetate resins is at least 50 wt.%. The sizing agent eliminates the separation of strands even in a hot-alkali atmosphere, prevents the deterioration, and improves the durability of the glass fibers.
