Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent fibrillation and breakage of fibers and the sagging of fiber bundles, by applying specific amounts of water and water-dispersible silicone oil to acrylic fiber precursors after fiber forming.
CONSTITUTION: 3 W 25 wt.% (based on the fiber weight) of water and 0.1 W 2,5 wt.% of a water-dispersible silicone oil are applied to precursors consisting of substantially void-free acrylic fibers, obtained by spinning a polymer solution, by drawing and drying the spun fibers, and wound. The wound precursors are preferrably sealed and packaged. A silicone oil of formula I or II is preferred.
