Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a picture-quality improving unit, used for a facsimile transmitter-receiver, a duplicating machine, etc., which improves picture quality by correcting a picture-element signal according to the comparison result between the signal of one picture element and picture-element signals close to this picture element. CONSTITUTION:Picture input unit 11 converts a picture image into a binary signal and then inputs it to input buffer memory 13 in picture-quality improving unit 12. Afrerwards, the picture information in memory 13 is read out via read-out circuit 14 and applied to both digital filter 18 and change-over circuit 15. Digital filter 18, serving for a low-pass filter for noise elimination, corrects this signal so that when its picture element is white (black) while its circumferential picture elements are all black (white), this picture element becomes black (white). The output of change- over circuit 15, namely, picture information is written into output buffer memory 17 by write circuit 16 and then regenerated by output unit 19.
