Abstract

PURPOSE: Title composition for modifying phenolic resins or others that is prepared by keeping a condensed mixture resulting from cleavage reaction of bis-phenol A in the presence of phenol in a specific temperature range, thus consisting of linear dimers and phenol and having excellent modifying effects.
CONSTITUTION: After a distillate mixture resulting from the cleavage reaction of 2,2,-bis(hydroxyphenyl)propane of formula I is condensed, it is ketp along with phenol at 20W100°C and converted to linear dimers of p-isopropenylphenol of formula II and III, thus producing said phenol composition mainly containing above linear dimers and phenol.
USE: A modifier for alkyd resins especially improving mechanical, chemical, and electrical properties.
