Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a journal box for axle which can be easily incorporated in the axle guard of a slider system, and can carry out buffer operation in the axle direction excellently.
CONSTITUTION: In a main body 5d of a journal box for the axle of a railway rolling stock, flanges 13d and 14d are protruded at the outside inner end side of the longitudinal wall 25 of the box and the outer end side thereof, and the outer surface of the longitudinal wall 25 between these flanges is formed into a sliding surface 26 slide-inserted between front and rear horn blocks 17d of the axle box guard 27 of a slider system, thus enabling the main body 5d of the axle box to slide in the vertical and horizontal directions on the block 17d, engagement surfaces 28 and 28 slantly cut away are formed on the upper and lower parts of the sliding surface 26 near to an inner end side flange 13d of the longitudinal wall 25. Protective metal fittings 32 are engaged with these surfaces 26 and 28 through buffer member 31 and wear preventing inclusions 33, and retained by a bolt 29 penetrating through the main body 5d. The journal box main body 5d is supported by a bearing guard 27 through a horn block 17d.
