Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform speed detection of high accuracy without subjecting to the influence of periodical noise by adjusting the phase of common mode noise contained in the noise signal obtainable from a moving object.
CONSTITUTION: Light having transmitted through moving paper 1 is detected with a photoelectric transducer 41 by way of a lens 31. Thereupon, the signal x(t) from the photoelectric transducer 41 is applied to a gain phase adjusting circuit 6. In addition, the difference of the signal from here and the signal from a photoelectric transducer 42 is obtained by an arithmetic circuit 7 and the output signal z(t) thereof is applied to a self-correlator 50, where the self correlation function ϕzz(τ) of z(t) is obtained. With this output signal ϕzz, a positive peak appears at ϕzz + ϕyy and a negative peak at ϕxy, ϕyz respectively, thus no periodical correlations owing to common mode noise appear. As a result, τ0 may be accurately detected and the velocity V may be known from the relation of τ0 = L/V.
