Abstract

PURPOSE:To surely detect running directions by detecting the specified relations between the lower 2 bits indicating the frame numbers of the frame code reproducing signal of each adjoining frame. CONSTITUTION:The lower 2 bits assigning the frame number of the reproduced frame codes are latched in a latch circuit 2 and the lowermost bit codes m00, m10 and the next lower bit codes m01, m11 are applied together with the lower 2 bits of the reproduced frame codes of the next frame are applied to a programmable ROM. The output of the 2 bits corresponding to the array order of these bit codes is then generated from the ROM 4. This output becomes the set or reset signal of an RSPP 5 according to the running directions of the tape because the configurations of the 2 bit codes differ according to the running directions of the tape. By the set and reset outputs of the FF 5, the running directions of the tape are surely detected irrespective of the tape speeds.
