Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the rise in the low-temperature starting voltage and the flicker without decreasing the power economizing ratio of a discharge tube of a fluorescent lamp, by sealing up a Kr-Ar-Ne mixed gas containing a specific percentage of Kr gas in the discharge tube.
CONSTITUTION: Mercury and the Kr-Ar-Ne mixed gas are sealed up in the 40-watt quickly-started straight-tube fluorescent lamp complying with TIS-C-7609. The mixed gas contains 40 % or more of Kr. The volume ratio of Ne to Kr of the mixed gas is 1/8 to 1/3. The mixed gas is sealed up under pressure of 1.5 to 2.5 Torr. The consumped power of the lamp is economized by 5 % or more in comparison with a fluorescent lamp containing Ar only. The ionization potential of the mixed gas is not higher than that of the lamp containing Ar only. No flicker occurs when the present fluorescent lamp is started at low temperature.
