Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable storage of large amounts of petroleum for a long period by filling steel plate cylindrical tanks with petroleum, sinking the tanks the seabed, connecting to the tanks by use of fixing frames, and packing sand between the tanks and between the seabed and the tanks.
CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical tank 1 is formed with an oil inlet-outlet port 2 and fitted with an open-close valve 3. Hoist metals 4 are fitted on top of the tank 1 and a ballast tank 5 is formed in the bottom of the tank 1. Hollow tanks 1 are carried to the sinking site, petroleum is filled in the tanks 1, valves 3 are closed, and the tanks 1 are sunk to the seabed. Each pair of tanks 1 thus sunk are fixed by a fixing frame. The frame 6 comprises a horizontal rod 7 fitted with vertical rods 8 at the ends and in the center, and is inserted from above the tanks 1 so as to hole each tank 1 between the verical rods 8. Cushion members 9 are provided for preventing contact between the tanks 1. After a predetermined tanks 1 have been sunk, sand is packed in the spaces between the tanks 1.
