Abstract

PURPOSE: To suppress the increase in the concentration of radioactive corrosion products and prevent them from flowing out of the core of a reactor and diffusion to an entire cooling system, by injecting hydrogen into cooling water from the time just before the stoppage of operation of a nuelar unclear power plant to the time just after the re-starting of operation of the plant.
CONSTITUTION: The injection of the hydrogen into the cooling water from the discharge side of a recirculating pump 3 of a cooling water recirculating loop 3 is started just before the operation of the nuclear power plant is stopped. The hydrogen concentration of the cooling water in the reactor is maintained at 22 exp(0.013t)cm3N.T.P/kgH2O or more. The corrosion products, the quantity of which increases around the stoppage and re-starting of operation of the nuclear power plant, are reduced by the hydrogen so that a metal is separated on the reactor core material and the corrosion products are suppressed from being dissolved in the cooling water. New corrosion is thus decreased.
