Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce an inert gas contg. little reactive substances such as O2, CO and hydrocarbon by burning hydrocarbon type fuel with an approximately theoretical vol. of air and burning unburned hydrocarbon and reducing gases such as CO in the formed combustion exhaust gas in the presence of oxidation catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Hydrocarbon type fuel 1 is burned with an approximately theoretical vol. of air 2 in burner 3, and unburned hydrocarbon, CO, etc. in the formed combustion exhaust gas are reacted with a little residual O2 in the presence of reducing gas oxidation catalyst such as pelletized Pt or Pd type catalyst packed in reactor 5 to obtain an inert gas contg. little O2 and reducing gases. Combustion exhaust gas from reactor 5 is fed to decarboxylation unit 7 to remove 8 almost all of CO2 with an absorbent-desorbent such as K2CO3, and the exhaust gas is dehydrated in dehydrater 10 to recover 11 above 99.9% purity N2 as an inert gas.
