Abstract

PURPOSE: To effect the recording operation even for a long dropout without lowering the reliability of digital information by recording and processing the dropout of a magnetic member at a word unit.

CONSTITUTION: If the reproduced output E₁ of dropout detecting signals E₀ to be reproduced by an auxiliary reproducing head 33 is lower than a preset level V_th and if the period TD exceeds the detecting (or correcting) capacity of code error detecting (or correcting) bits, dropout detecting signals ED are fed from a detecting circuit 5 to a delay circuit 6. The signals ED are delayed to the time until the leading edge (or first bit) of the word to be recorded of the magnetic tape 1 from which the dropout is detected reaches a main recording head 22 and are fed to a recording operation control circuit 9 to stop the information resding operation from a digital information memory circuit 7 so that the dummy word WD of a dummy information generating circuit 8 is recorded through the head 22 in the word to be recorded to restart the reading operation of the digital information at the end of the recording operation. As a result, the digital information can be always recorded without any reduction in reliability.
