Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a metallic decorative laminate having striking appearance and free from staining and delamination, by etching a substrate composed of base layer and a metallic foil layer patternwise to form a pattern of the metal foil, and filling the hollow part formed by the removal of the metal foil with a synthetic resin.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of prepreg sheets impregnated with a thermosetting resin are laminated to form a base layer 1. A metal foil with roughened reverse surface 6 is laminated to the base layer 1 by hot-pressing interposing an adhesive layer 2 therebetween. The surface of the metal foil is printed patternwise with an anti-corrosive tar resist ink, sprayed with an etchant to etch the metal foil until the unprinted part of the base layer 1 is exposed. The resist is remoed, and at least the hollow part 4 of the laminate is filled with a synthetic resin 5. The metal foil 3 has a clearly undercut edge 7.
