Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the detection of β radioactivity in fluid with a high sensitive and relatively simple constitution by passing the fluid being measured in the clearances of laminated fluorescent plates in an atomic power plant.
CONSTITUTION: A stagnating vessel 10 having a suction port 9 and a discharge port 11 for the fluid being measured, phosphors 12 thru 16 which are contained in the vessel 10 and emit fluorescence when radiated by radiations, a pair of photoelectric multipliers 25, 26 which detect the fluorescence from the phosphors and convert the same to electric pulses and breeder circuits 27, 28 are provided. The phosphors are constituted by laminating two or more transparent fluorescent material flat plates at a specified spacing in slit form and the multipliers 25, 26 are so disposed that their photo detecting faces become parallel to the flat faces of the phosphors. Hence, the absorption ratios of β rays in the fluid being measured flowing in the clearances between the flat plates 12 thru 16 are reduced, whereby detection sensitivity is increased and the outputs thereof may be counted by discriminating from noise with an external circuit.
