Abstract
PURPOSE: To cheaply recover zinc from zinc-contg. dust or sludge in a high yield by extracting zinc with an aq. soln. of ammonium sulfate and adding MnO2 to the extract to allow zinc to be absorbed.
CONSTITUTION: A 0.5W10% aq. soln. of ammonium sulfate is added to waste raw material 1 of low zinc content, e.g. blast furnace dust or plating sludge charged into stirring vessel 1, followed by stirring for 10W60 min. The amt. of the slon. added is 20W1000 times as much as the amt. of material 1. The soln. separated from settled sludge in dehydrater 4 is fed to MnO2-packed exchange tower 7 through regulation vessel 6 together with the supernatant in vessel 2 to adsorption remove zinc. The filtrate is returned to tank 10, adjusted to pH≥6, and recycled. A sulfuric acid soln. of pH 1W2 is fed to tower 7 from regenerating agent vessel 8 to elute the adsorbed zinc, and the soln. is supplied to a zinc recovering process when the zinc concn. reaches several %. Dehydrated dust 5 is dried and reused as an iron source.
