Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain Ni, Co and copper of high purity by adding glycol ether diamine tetraacetic acid or other to the acid solution of manganese nodules, passing the solution through cation exchange resins then adding a rubeanic acid, dissolving the precipitate thereof in an acid and eluting Ni, Co and copper through anion exchange resins.
CONSTITUTION: Manganese nodules are dissolved in an acid and glycol ether diamine tetraacetic acid or cyclohexane diamine tetraacetic acid as a chelating agent is added to this solution, which is then passed through anion exchange resins. The eluate thereof is controlled to pH6 and is then added with rubeanic acid to allow Ni, Co, and copper to precipitate, whereby a large amount of iron, Mn and lead are removed. This precpitate is dissolved in a nitric acid and the solution is evaporated to dryness. The solid is dissolved in a 9N hydrochloric acid and is passed through cation exchange resins and the 9N hydrochloric acid is flown away to elute Ni and copper. Next, Co is eluted by using a 4N hydrochloric acid.
