Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain AgO having high stability and less gas generating capability by the procedure in which an Ag salt or Ag2O is reacted with specific amounts of specific concentrations of a persulfate solution and an alkali metal hydroxide solution, and then a Cd salt, etc., is added to the reaction solution.
CONSTITUTION: An Ag salt, e.g., AgNO3, etc., or Ag2O is reacted with a persulfate, e.g., K2S2O8, etc., and an alkali metal hydroxide, NaOH, e.g., under the conditions below, and then after the completion of reaction, 0.05 to 20 wt parts of a Cd salt, e.g., Cd(NO3)2, etc., or CdO is added to the reaction solution on the basis of 100 wt parts of Ag present in the reaction product. The perferred amount of persulfate is 1 to 1.85 times as much as the theoretical reacting amount in the case of an aqueous solution concentraton of 0.04 to 0.72 mole/1, and also the preferred amount of alkali metal hydroxide is 1.05 to 6 times as much as the theoretical reacting amount in the case of an aqueous solution concentration of 0.3 to 4.8 mole/1. The reaction temperature is 0 to 80°C. The addition of Cd results in a new effect on the voltage stability of cell.
