Abstract
PURPOSE:To make possible the friction welding of thin walled tube made of Al, Cu, etc., in the friction welding of the tubular body made of metal of large conductivity, by treating with peculiar method including the reinforcement of strength of the tubular body, the preventive means for diffusion of the friction heat, etc. CONSTITUTION:The tubular body 2 is inserted into dies 3 in which the chamfering 15 is applied to the end part of the hole 16 for inserting the tube; the conical punch 1 is thrusted against the load pin 4, for simultaneously causing the flanging and buckling; after that, dies 6 thrust the flat punch 5 against the load pin 4, so as to form the stepped flange perpendicular to the axis. The flanged faces of two tubes 2, 2', to be welded, are jointed, and the core rods 13, 13', made of an insulating material are inserted into the tube, and the reinforcing rings 11, 11', made of the insulating material are fixed to the flanged faces by the chucks 7, 7'. The insulating material 13 of the tube 2 is extended out of the tube 2, and is rotated at high speed; the tube 2' on the stationary side is thrusted against the rotating side, and the heat is generated by friction. Next, the rotation is suddenly stopped, and at the same time, an upsetting force is loaded on th stationary side. Hereby, the volume of the faying surface is made large, and the diffusion of the friction heat is prevented by employng the reinforcing ring, and core rod made of insulating material; and the friction welding of thin walled tube of Al, Cu, etc., becomes possible.
