Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the constitution of the detecting ends and make possible the sure width measurement of casting ingots by providing the detecting ends comprising opposedly disposing the high pressure nozzles injecting high pressure fluid and the low pressure nozzles discharging low pressure fluid and pressure detectors on the way of low pressure fluid supply pipes.
CONSTITUTION: A block 10 comprising disposing high pressure nozzles at every fixed interval, a block 11 comprising disposing low pressure nozzles at every fixed interval and both blocks 10, 11 are further integrated to make a block structure 12. These structures 12 are positioned in the suitable range at both side edge parts of the measuring object 6 and over its outside by drive control units 13 which control the spacing between the two block structures 12 in such a manner that the high and low pressure nozzles oppose. In addition, fluid supply pipes 5 and manometers 7 are disposed in the same number as that of the low pressure nozzles. The output signals of the respective manometers are inputted to an arithmetic unit 14 which in turn calculates the width of the measuring object from the fixed length L, the high pressure nozzle disposition intervals and the signals from the respective manometers.
