Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten the time required for generation of original picture, etc., to code signals according to colors intended by a producer, by comparing three-primary color signals of the original picture with boundary signals to detect border lines of the picture and detecting a part where three or more border lines are intersected to one another.

CONSTITUTION: Original picture 1 is picked up by image pickup unit 2 to obtain electric signals of three primary colors R, G and B, and this output is subjected to A/D conversion in A/D converter 3 and is made into three-primay color signals for pulse code modulation, and they are subjected to run length coding by run length coder 4 and are sent to register circuit 8. Meanwhile, R, G and B three-primary color signals for pulse code modulation are compared with the boundary color signal which is set in boundary color signal setting circuit 9, thereby detecting border lines of the picture. Then, border lines are counted by counter circuit 10, and the number of intersecting border lines is calculated through decode circuit 11. Meanwhile, part where three or more border lines are intersecting to one another are detected, and the output is sent to a gate circuit and is coded while referring to a prescribed color desigation table. As a result, the time requied for generation of the original picture, etc., can be shortened, and coding can be performed according to colors intended by a producer.
