Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate and capture oxide base inclusions in metal sample efficiently by electrolyzing the metal sample contained in the inner bath of an electrolytic bath between the same as anode and the cathode of the outer bath side and magnetically separating the deposits in the inner bath then sieving the same.
CONSTITUTION: Metal sample 10 is held to the anode 5 consisting of a magnet put on with a platinum cap 7 and is put in the inner bath 1 of a cylindrical electrolytic bath which is disposed with a metal screen on the side faces and whose bottom is of funnel form. Electrolysis is then performed between the same and and the cathode 12 on the outer bath 11 side. Upon completion of the electrolysis, the sample 10 is removed, the inner bath 1 is taken out and the deposits together with a small amount of electrolyte within the funnel form part are transferred into another vessel, where magnetic matter is magnetically separated and removed. Next, the dispersion of the abovementioned deposits is poured onto plural sheets of sieves 15 of different meshes which are so laminated as to become coarser in mesh as they go uperward. The dispersion is then drawn through a suction bottle 17, whereby the deposits are sieved. Following to this, measurements for each grain size are accomplished and the oxide base inclusions in the sample are analyzed. The rate of electrolysis of the sample is calculated from the weight differences of the sample before and after the electrolysis.
