Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently recover He in natural gas by compressing the natural gas to remove water, H2S, CO2, etc.; liquefying the gas; separating He-N2 mixed gas by cooling; and allowing the mixed gas to permeate through a diaphragm to selectively separation concentrate He.
CONSTITUTION: Natural gas contg. 0.4% He is compressed 11 to remove 12 the above impurities in a tray tower filled with phenylethylamine. The impurities-free natural gas is fed to cooling process 13, heat exchanged 2a, supplied to separator 5a, cooled to -150°C with liquefied N2 15a, and liquefied. The gaseous phase from separator 5a is supplied 1b as He-N2 mixed gas to He concn. section 14 through piping 6a. In section 14, the mixed gas and gas flowing from return piping 4b are mixed with header 3b, pressurized 5b, and introduced into two unit series separation cells 6b, 10b. Part of the gas introduced into cell 6b is allowed to pemetate through ethylcellulose-cellulose acetate composite membrane 7b to recover 9b 99.75% He gas.
