Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it possible to identify the kind of a vehicle accurately by measuring the time from an ultrasonic transmission wave to its reflected reception wave and by discriminating it by a microprocessor.
CONSTITUTION: An ultrasonic signal from ultrasonic-wave generator 101 is transmitted from transmitter-receiver 105, reflected by a road surface, small-sized vehicle, or large-sized vehicle, and then received by transmitter-receiver 105, so that it will be clocked by external counter 110. To detect a large-sized vehicle such as a bus, microprocessors 120A and 120B store in RAMs 123A and 123B ultrasonic-wave return times between discriminative inferior level HA for a vehicle highser than a small-sized vehicle and the road surface, and between superior level HB higher than the bus and road surface in addition to a reference time through the reflection from the road surface. Then, detecting a reflected wave from a higher part than level HA cause microprocessor 120A to output detection signal DA, and detecting a reflected wave from a higher part than level HB, on the other hand, causes 120B to output detection signal DB; and EOR circuit 129 outputs OR-ELSE signal DS between both the outputs, thereby detecting the bus.
