Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce steel rod easily and inexpensively without causing decarbonization, by heat treatment of steel rod, which is removed of scale formed on the surface, in nitrogen gas atmosphere in a prescribed temp. range. CONSTITUTION:After complete removal of scale formed on the surface of steel rod, the steel rod is treated at 700-1,000 deg.C in an atmosphere of N2 gas which has a dew point lower than that which is in equilibrium with the steel. The carbon steel rod to be treated by this method is pref. of C content of 0.3-0.9%.
