Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate incomplete weld defficiency and to provide efficient multi- layer pipe welding, a welding process essentially consisting of MIG multilayer welding is used with additional submerged arc welding.
CONSTITUTION: An electrode for MIG welding process is moved forward, and at a distance 250 to 600mm behind, an electrode for light-covering welding follows. The preceding electrode is shielded by mixed gas consisting of 60 to 95% of He, 5 to 20% of CO2 and O to 20% of Ar, and performs welding with the condition such as wire diameter; 3.2 to 4.8mm, wire melting rate; 140 to 350g/min, electrode distance; 250 to 600mm; welding current; 600 to 1100 A, arc voltage; 23 to 36 V, welding speed; 40 to 120cm/min, heat input to one electrode; 30000J/cm or below. The subsequent electrode is used under the condition of welding: wire melting rate; 0.1 to 0.5 times the preceding wire, electrode distance; 250 to 600mm, welding speed; 40 to 120cm/min, heat input to one electrode; 30000J/cm or below.
