Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain elastic fibers having improved strength and fatique resistance, by melt spinning a blend of a thermoplastic polyurethane and a thermoplastic synthetic rubber.
CONSTITUTION: A thermoplastic polyurethane (U)is blended with a thermoplastic synthetic rubber (R), e.g. styrene-butadiene, butadieneacrylonitrile, or chloroprene copolymer, at a weight ratio of U to R of 1:9W9:1, preferably 4:6W6:4 and melt spun into elastic fibers. The polyurethane(U) is prepared by reacting a polyol with an isocyanate to give a prepolymer having terminal NCO groups, whose molecular chain is extended by a glycol or ethylenediamine.
