Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase rows of picture elements without increasing the number of common electrodes by providing an extended portion at the specified section of common electrode and changing the segment electrode to dot segment.
CONSTITUTION: In case of the opposing type electrode in matrix structure, common electrode 11 is, for example, divided into three electrode patterns 11a, 11b and 11c connected to three electrode lines COM1, COM2 and COM3 and each pattern is arranged in the lateral direction while extended portion 12 is formed at the required section in the longitudinal direction, thus playing essentially the role of 4 electrode patterns.
