Abstract
PURPOSE: To facilitate the operation of laying cable by filling the tube with a concentrated solution containing one of the main substances dissolved in sea water or a mixture of such substance and having a specific gravity higher than that of sea water.
CONSTITUTION: The operation of laying a cable within a tube is carried out by filling the tube with a concentrated solution containing one of the main substances dissolved in sea water, for instance sodium chloride, potassium chloride and magnesium chloride, or a mixture of such substances. In this way, it is possible to reduce the apparent weight of the cable to an extent corresponding to the buoyancy of the cable. In addition, since the liquid contains the main substance dissolved in sea water, even if it leaks out of the tube, it does not lead to environmental polution.
