Abstract
1518757 Treating plants O RUTHNER 9 Aug 1976 [26 Jan 1976] 33150/76 Heading A1E Seeds on a substrate are carried by a continuously moving conveyor arrangement through an environment favourable to root formation, and the root fleece thus formed is transferred to a conveyor carrying it through an environment favourable to shoot formation. Two endless conveyors 1', 1" are arranged with flights 4 aligned vertically and moving upwardly over a run 3 One flight of each pair has a groove 7 on which a bar 8 is placed. Carrier material 5 is cut from a roll 6 and placed over the bar 8 and lowest flights 4 in run 3 and seed poured thereon. A frame 9 may be temporarily placed on the carrier 5 to retain the seeds thereon. The carrier moves upwardly and root formation occurs. At the top of the run hooks 10 on a conveyor 2 engage the bar 8 and lift it, together with the root-fleece-envelopped carrier 5, off the conveyors 1', 1". The root fleece is then carried by the conveyor 2 through a conditioning chamber where it can be sprayed with water and/or nutrient solution or dipped in a nutrient bath at the lower ends of the conveyor runs.
