Abstract

PURPOSE:In a process for fabricating a preform for optical fibers by heating raw material gases introduced into a quartz glass pipe so that a glass film is formed on the interior wall of the quartz glass pipe, it is intended to prevent thermal deformation of the pipe and heighten a heat-absorbing property thereof by construcing the pipe from an outer anhydrous layer and an inner hydrous layer.
