Abstract
1414622 Exhaust gas treatment JOHNSON MATTHEY & CO Ltd 4 Oct 1972 [6 Oct 1971 15 March 1972] 46488/71 and 12066/72 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions B1 and C5] A process for the activation or reactivation of a supported catalyst used in conjunction with an I.C. engine exhaust, the support being a porous honeycomb structure, preferably of ceramic comprises either: (a) supplying to the exhaust gas stream emanating from the engine at a position upstream of the support a suspension or solution in a hydrocarbon solvent of one or more metals or mixtures or alloys containing one or more metals or compounds of one or more metals selected from the group consisting of Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir, Pt, Ag, Au or: (b) supplying to the engine a fuel and/or lubricant to which has been added the suspension or solution. The preferred metal compounds are metal carbonyls or olefinic hydrocarbon liquid derivatives of platinous chloride, or organo metalbis containing the cyclopentadienyl or acetonyl acetrate residue.
