Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a loss in livestock by preventing infectious diseases by orally administering chitosan. SOLUTION: Chitosan is orally administered to prevent infectious diseases. Although the infectious diseases vary with the livestock, the diseases include all thereof in which microorganisms invade a biological host, colonize and proliferate. Effects are recognized in prevention of the infectious diseases in especially respiratory and digestive organs among the infectious diseases. Although cattle, a horse, a pig and a chicken, etc., are cited as the livestock, there is no special limitation. Preventing effects on the infectious diseases are strongly recognized in livestock deteriorated in immune strength in mature livestock or young livestock weak in the immune strength. Further, the preventing effects on the infectious diseases are remarkable in calves.

2. Description of the Related Art Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide and is obtained by deacetylation of chitin, which is usually obtained from crustacean and shrimp shells, by alkali treatment, enzyme treatment, or the like. More specifically, using crab and shrimp as raw materials, chitin excluding protein and calcium is further deacetylated, and the degree of deacetylation (the ratio of glucosamine residues in the sugar chain) is 50% or more.
It is one that has become soluble in dilute acid.

Problems to be solved by the present invention Stopping and delaying growth and death of livestock due to pneumonia and bacterial diarrhea are major problems for dairy farmers. In particular, infants after childbirth and after weaning often have pneumonia and bacterial diarrhea, which often results in death. In addition, there are many cases in which growth is delayed due to the onset of this disease, and the economic loss is large. Livestock that have developed pneumonia or bacterial diarrhea are treated with antibiotics and the like, but this leads to an increase in production costs. In addition, antibiotics and the like are added to feed to prevent this disease, but there are problems in terms of workability, cost, and drug holiday. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a measure for preventing livestock abrasion, which can prevent infectious diseases, has no problems in efficacy, workability, cost, and drug holiday.

[0009] As an oral administration method of chitosan, there is a method of directly administering an oral preparation of chitosan to livestock and a method of mixing the oral preparation of chitosan into feed or drinking water and then administering it. 200 to 100 doses of chitosan
0 mg / head / day. The administration period is not particularly limited, but in order to expect the effect, it is necessary to continuously give an oral chitosan or a chitosan-containing feed for a certain period. For example, for the prevention of calf diarrhea or pneumonia, the effect can be exerted by oral administration for 10 to 14 days as shown in the following examples.

Example 2 Three calves aged 7 to 10 days old at T Farm were mixed with 50 mL of an oral chitosan (containing 200 mg of chitosan) twice a day in milk and administered for 1 week (chitosan administration group). As controls, three calves to which chitosan was not administered (control group) were used.
Were artificially infected with Salmonella dublin 10 9 pieces injected intravenously all six horses were observed symptoms of each subsequent individual. The chitosan administration group continued oral administration of chitosan for 2 weeks thereafter.
The control group showed symptoms of pneumonia and was treated with antibiotics. In the chitosan administration group, evacuation continues from feces,
She grew well with little clinical symptoms.

Example 3 A test was carried out on a K pasture with 26 out of 50 calves introduced as a chitosan-administered group and 24 as a control group. For oral chitosan, 50 mL (containing 200 mg of chitosan) was mixed with milk twice a day and administered for 10 to 14 days from the day of introduction. Treatment with antibiotics for diarrhea, pneumonia and the like was performed as usual, and the number of treatments was compared. In the control group, there were cases in which treatment was observed, whereas in the administration group, no cases were treated.

Example 4 To 10 clinically healthy calves (Holstein male) introduced at T farm, 50 mL of chitosan oral preparation (containing 200 mg of chitosan) was mixed with 2 L of milk replacer per cow twice a day. , For 16 days, and the administration effect was compared using 10 mice as a control without chitosan administration. Excretion of diarrheal stool was confirmed in 1 out of 10 animals in the control group, but none of the administration groups showed respiratory and digestive symptoms. The body weight gain during the administration period was 12.1 kg per animal on average in the administration group, and 7.1 kg in the control group, and the body weight gain per day was 426 g and 259 g, respectively.
