Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an optical disk recording method for a CAV type disk drive which has an area nearby the outer periphery used effectively by providing a dummy data area on the inner peripheral side of the disk and recording effective data outside it. SOLUTION: The optical disk has dummy data as ineffective data present on its disk outer peripheral side and the effective data, which should originally be recorded, written outside them. To read the data out, the effective data on the outer peripheral side are accessed by referring to standard data present at the innermost circumference of the disk. Here, an equation, Cm=Cd-Cw is obtained; the amount Cm of the dummy data is Cd-Cw, where Cd is the total capacity of the disk and Cw is the total amount of the effective data which are recorded, and this amount of dummy data are recorded on the inner peripheral side of the disk. The effective data Cw are recorded outside them to fully use the total capacity Cd of the disk, and the effective data are read eventually nearby the outer peripheral of the disk.

2. Description of the Related Art According to the standard, a rotation control method of a disk drive for reading an optical disk whose recording starts from the inside starts from a CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) method and a CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) method. There is. In the CLV method, the rotation speed of the disk is controlled so that the data reading on the inner peripheral side is performed at a higher speed than the outer peripheral side so that the transfer rate (BPS: number of bits / second) of the read data is kept constant. On the other hand, C
In the AV system, data is always read at a constant number of revolutions regardless of the reading position, so that a difference occurs in the transfer rate between the inner circumference and the outer circumference.

In a CAV type disk drive in which the number of rotations of the disk is constant, the number of bits read per unit time increases as the data is written on the outer peripheral side of the disk. Therefore, it is advantageous that the data is recorded near the outer periphery of the disk because the transfer rate to the host computer is higher. In other words, the drive is set so that the highest performance is exhibited on the outer peripheral side of the disk.

However, since it is standardized for an optical disc to record data from the inner circumference of the disc, if the amount of data to be recorded is less than the total capacity of the optical disc,
Data is recorded only on the inner circumference side of the disk with a lower transfer rate, and the recording area near the outer circumference with a higher transfer rate remains unused. In particular, when the data amount is significantly smaller than the total capacity of the optical disk, the original performance of the drive cannot be obtained, and the high performance is wasted.

According to the present invention, there is provided an optical disk recording method comprising: providing a dummy data area on an inner peripheral side of a disk; and recording effective data outside the dummy data area. . That is, dummy data that does not need to be read is generated to fill a predetermined area on the inner peripheral side, thereby enabling effective data to be recorded on the outer peripheral portion of the disk.

FIG. 2 is a diagram showing the relationship between the reading position of the optical disk and the data transfer rate in the CAV method. As shown in FIG. 2, in the CAV control, since the data transfer rate is higher toward the outer periphery of the disk, it can be seen that it is desirable to record data actually used in this area.

FIG. 3 shows an example of the data structure of an optical disk on which data has been recorded by the recording method of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 3, in the optical disk of this example, dummy data, which is invalid data having no meaning, exists on the inner circumference side of the disk, and valid data to be stored is written outside the dummy data. As dummy data, for example, 0 (zero)

In this case, assuming that the total capacity of the disk is Cd and the total amount of effective data to be recorded is Cw, the dummy data amount is Cm = Cd-Cw, and this amount of dummy data is recorded on the inner peripheral side of the disk. Then, the effective data Cw is recorded on the outside of the disk so as to use up the total capacity Cd of the disk, and as a result, the effective data is read near the outer periphery of the disk.

-It can be applied to a rewritable (Re-Writable) optical disk such as a RAM. In a rewritable disk such as a CD-RW or a DVD-RAM, if new data is written from an outer portion of an inner peripheral area initially set as dummy data,

Further, since the transfer rate may differ depending on the CAV method even in the effective data storage area on the outer periphery, it is more effective to divide the effective data area as follows. : Store frequently used data files inside relatively fast access.
: Store a large data file such as image / audio data on the outside with a relatively high transfer rate.
By combining these methods, the overall transfer efficiency can be further increased and the processing speed can be increased.
