To date, an extremely large number of herbicides for agricultural land and non-agricultural land have been developed, and these herbicides have achieved great effects, such as improving productivity and saving labor in weeding operations.
However, on the other hand, in recent years, the effect of the herbicide on the environment has been highlighted as a major problem, and there is a strong demand for the development of safer herbicides and further reduction in the amount used. Straight-chain fatty acids are a group of compounds widely existing in nature as components of fats constituting living bodies and others, and are generally rapidly degraded by microorganisms, and are extremely safe for humans and animals.

However, since fatty acid pesticides are non-migratory and do not kill the roots of weeds, they have the disadvantage that weeds are regenerated quickly and have poor residual efficacy. On the other hand, plant growth regulators suppress the growth of weeds over a long period of time, but their effect is slow to express, and there is a problem in the case where it is desired to quickly control weeds that have already occurred, particularly those that have grown in advance. . For example, when it is necessary to control weeds promptly for maintenance and security, such as in railway track sections and road shoulders, conventional plant growth regulators have not been satisfactory. In addition, in order to use the conventional plant growth regulator, it was necessary to cut down weeds and then spray the plant growth regulator. An object of the present invention is to solve the drawbacks of these two types of herbicides, and to provide a herbicide that is highly safe and has excellent immediate and residual effects.

The present inventors have found that the herbicidal effect is synergistically improved by mixing the two agents, and completed the present invention. That is, the present invention is a composition for controlling weeds, comprising a fatty acid or a salt or ester thereof and a plant growth regulator as active ingredients. The present invention is also a method for controlling weeds using the above-described composition for controlling weeds.

In the week, it recovered to the same level as no treatment. In the plant growth regulator alone, the effect was seen from the third week, and the effect was continued after the sixth week, but the herbicidal activity was only about 30-40%. The effect of the mixed group was not different from that of the single fatty acid group until the third day, but a synergistic improvement in herbicidal activity was observed after the third week. As described above, with the fatty acid monotherapy, the effect immediately after the treatment was high, but no sustained effect was observed. In the plant growth regulator single agent group, the effect was gradually exhibited from the third week after the treatment, but the effect immediately after the treatment was not observed at all. On the other hand, the mixed group showed a high effect immediately after the treatment, and the effect was maintained for a long time.
