Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid causing such damage to signals to improve the reliability of the magnetic tape cartridge that if a magnetic tape is taken up at a high speed, an irregular winding would tend to occur to damage the tape edge located at the irregularly wound part, resulting in the damage of record signals when long stored. SOLUTION: A signal recording area W of a magnetic tape 2 is provided below a buffer area C provided along the tape top edge. The spacing H between opposed reel flanges 5, 6 of the tape reel 3 is set to the tape width B of the magnetic tape 2 plus a gap margin E which is set to a smaller value than the width of the buffer area C to avoid damaging magnetic signals recorded on the signal recording area W.

2. Description of the Related Art As this kind of magnetic tape cartridge, various kinds of magnetic tape cartridges are generally used for video and computer data. Both have a pair of tape reels on the left and right inside the case body, and record magnetic signals on the magnetic tape while feeding out the magnetic tape from one tape reel and winding it on the other tape reel. .

[0003] The tape reel has a pair of flanges above and below the hub, and the distance between the two flanges is set slightly larger than the width of the magnetic tape. Therefore, in the state where the magnetic tape is wound, a slight margin is generated between the tape winding layer and one of the flanges.

As described above, a margin is added to the distance between the pair of flanges facing each other when there is a disturbance factor such as an inclination of the tape traveling system or a variation in the back tension, or when the tape has It is intended to take up the magnetic tape properly without any trouble even when the width dimension varies. Incidentally, in the case of a typical VHS video magnetic tape cartridge in which the tape width of the magnetic tape is 12.65 mm, the conventional clearance is 0.75 mm.
Was set to However, when performing high-speed tape feeding such as a fast-forward mode or a rewind mode, a number of concentric steps may be formed on the tape winding layer within the margin, or a part of the magnetic tape may be tape-wound. Winding turbulence such as protrusion at the upper end surface of the layer occurs. In particular, when a thinner magnetic tape is used in order to improve the signal recording density and lengthen the signal recording time, the tape itself has low rigidity, so that the winding is more likely to be disturbed.

If a magnetic tape is stored for a long period of time with such a winding disturbance, the tape edge protruding from the end surface of the tape winding layer may be damaged, and the recorded signal in that portion may not be reproduced. Particularly, in the case of a thin magnetic tape having low rigidity and low buckling strength, the tape edge is easily damaged. Incidentally, if the magnetic tape is rewound at a low speed, it is possible to return the tape winding layer to an orderly state without any turbulence even when the tape thickness is small. However, this winding operation takes a lot of time and effort,
Inevitably increases costs.

In the case of the magnetic tape cartridge of the system, a mono-channel or stereo-channel audio signal track was secured on the upper edge of the tape. However, without writing a signal to this audio track, the audio signal was recorded inside the main signal recording area. Is recorded in a video system together with a video signal. In FIG. 1, a tape reel 3 is a hub 4
And a pair of upper and lower reel flanges 5 and 6 provided at the upper and lower ends of the hub 4. A spline hole-shaped drive hole is provided inside the hub 4 so as to open downward, and the entire tape reel 3 can be rotationally driven by a drive-side drive shaft that is fitted and engaged in the hole. In order to take up the magnetic tape 2 without hindrance,
The opposing interval H between the upper and lower reel flanges 5 and 6 is set to a value obtained by adding a margin E to the tape width B of the magnetic tape 2.

When the magnetic tape 2 is taken up by the tape reel 3, the maximum upward displacement of the magnetic tape 2 is equal to the value of the margin E. Therefore, the value of the clearance E is set smaller than the width of the buffer region C, and even when the magnetic tape 2 is wound on the tape reel 3 in a state where the magnetic tape 2 is displaced by the maximum amount of displacement, The upper portion of the signal recording area W is prevented from being exposed to the space defined by the allowance E.

As described above, according to the tape reel 3 in which the value of the margin gap E is set in relation to the buffer area C, the magnetic tape can be used at the time of tape feeding at a high speed such as a fast-forward mode or a rewind mode. 2, even if winding disturbance occurs, the maximum amount of winding disturbance can be suppressed as compared with the conventional example. Further, since the maximum amount of the turbulence is always smaller than the width of the buffer region C, even if the tape edge protruding toward the margin E is deformed or bent, the signal recording region W is left. Dropout and distortion of the recorded magnetic signal can be reliably prevented, and reliability during long-term storage can be improved. When the width of the buffer area C is less than the clearance (0.7
When it is smaller than 5 mm), the maximum amount of turbulence can be suppressed as compared with the conventional tape reel, and the position where the tape edge is damaged can be moved away from the signal recording area W by that much.
